ABC3PO Episode II

For the first ABC3PO Alphabet, I challenged myself to only use characters from the 6 original films.

For this lower case sequel, I decided to broaden the scope and include any characters from the newly established official Star Wars canon (7 films, Rebels, Clone Wars). Only one character (X) doesn't fit that criteria:

Have fun guessing who is who. Prints, shirts, pillows, phone cases, clocks, mugs, shower curtains and more available through Society6, Redbubble and Tee Public.

Mr. Mups

I thought this was a fun little mash up. The characters just worked so well together. I’m considering a whole series.

Available at Redbubble and Society 6.

NATO Phonetic Alphabet

I recently received a very touching email from a young man named Nicholas Machado:

Dear Mr. Boon,

My name is Nicholas Machado from Virginia.  I am 10 years old.  I like how you customize alphabets into cool designs.  So, I have a picture of the NATO Phonetic Alphabet in pictures.  When you have the list, search up pictures on Google of the letters and soon you will find how these make sense.  You inspired me to do it.  I hope you think this is awesome.

Nicholas Machado

PS Look in the "M".  There is a message for you.

I later learned from his father John that Nicholas is on the autistic spectrum and has Asperger's Syndrome.

At first, I was greatly moved by Nicholas' sweetness, but after closely looking at his design, I am also very impressed by the inventiveness of his design. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do:
Thank you for sharing Nicholas.

Child of TV Alphabets

I've been trying to move away from alphabets for a while now but I just keep coming up with more ideas. I knew that if I was going to step away, I needed to go out with a bang.

With that in mind, I'd like to present the "Child of TV" series, an alphabetic tribute to your favorite animated/puppet TV characters from the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and 2000s.

Since focus here was on television, I tried to stick to characters who originated in a TV series or shorts. This meant limiting characters who originated in a movie (so no Penguins of Madagascar or Yoda). Particularly for the most recent decades, I also limited characters aimed specifically at preschoolers (sorry Barney and Dora) or adults (so no Adult Swim, Beavis & Butthead, King of the Hill or Simpsons).

Also, some criteria: I limited each show to one character. I considered a character to be part of a specific decade if (a) the show I'm representing debuted within one year prior to the start of the decade and (b) if the majority of the series ran in that decade. So there may be a character who debuted in 1999, for example, but since his show was most popular in the 2000s, this is where he falls.

Have fun guessing who is who. Posters, shirts, phone cases, pillows, leggings, tote bags and more available at Society6 and Redbubble.

After having so much fun with my Horror Icon Alphabet, I wanted to offer another typographic tribute to the villains and bad guys we all love to hate. Presenting the Evil-phabet:

Have fun figuring out who is who. They are all based on animated villains and I restricted myself to one image per film.

Posters, shirts, phone cases, tote bags, clocks, duvets, shower curtains and more available at Society6 and Redbubble.

That's Alphabet Folks

What's Up, Doc?

I spent so much time with this group when I was younger that this was surprisingly easy to populate. Most difficult choice was who to use for T (sorry Taz).

Have fun figuring out who is who. I'll give you one: X is Ex (who debuted with 1935's I Haven't Got a Hat).

Posters, shirts, phone cases, tote bags, clocks, duvets, shower curtains and more available at Society6 and Redbubble.
